It just continues to amaze me how Jeremiah is growing and developing. He is constantly asking me, "Why mama? Why?" He already has a good grasp on the days of the week and will often want me to go through our week day by day explaining what will happen on each day. He knows the days of the week in order and knows our family routine (what days I work, what day we go to church, what days are the weekend and papa is home). It is fun, and challenging, to watch his mind expand as he continues to learn new concepts. We are now starting to enter the realm of emotions, which I find especially challenging to help him identify his emotions and how they are linked to his behavior. Here are a few conversations we have had recently.
J - "Mama, what is jealous?"
M - "Well, it is when you feel like you are not happy with the things you have and you want something someone else has."
J - "Oh."
M - "Like sometimes don't you want something that Nathaniel has and you want to take it from him? That is jealous. Do you ever feel jealous?"
J - "No....."
M - "Sometimes mama feels jealous. Sometimes mama isn't happy with the things God has given her and wants something that someone else has."
J - "Oh.... I get jealous too mama."

M - "Jeremiah, you are being very disobedient today. Should we pray and ask Jesus to give you a kind a loving heart?
J - "No mama, he died on the cross for my sins."

And here is a conversation that happened out of the blue that just blew my mind because having my aversion to math we had not started working on math concepts yet.
Aaron and a friend of ours named Jeff had gone to drop off the aluminum left over from our windows. Jeremiah comes up to me,
J - "Mama, right now there are 3 people in the house and when papa and Mr. Jeff come back there will be 5."
M - few seconds of stunned silence. "You are right baby, 3 plus 2 is 5. Where did you learn that?"
J - dismissive tone, "Oh, I don't know, you tell me."
That same afternoon we were driving to the blueberry farm to meet Jeff and his wife Lisa.
J - "We are 4 people. When we get to the blueberry farm we will be 6. Right?"
Sheesh, if he keeps going at this rate my math skills are going to be sorely tested. And really, who taught him that?
