Proverbs 31

An excellent wife who can find?
She is far more precious than jewels.
The heart of her husband trusts in her,
and she will have no lack of gain.
She does him good, and not harm,
all the days of her life.

She dresses herself with strength
and makes her arms strong.
---
She opens her hand to the poor
and reaches out her hand to the needy.
---
She opens her mouth with wisdom,
and the teaching of kindness in on her tongue.
She looks well to the ways of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
Her children raise up and call her blessed
her husband also, and he praises her:
“Many women have done excellently but you have surpassed them all.”
Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain,
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.

I have realized that for this season in my life the time to sit for long periods of time and "have devotions" is just not going to happen. So I try to build in worship in other ways in my life. I turn on praise music while I work in the kitchen or clean the house (I love Michael Card because so many of his lyrics are straight from scripture). I read a Bible story with Jeremiah at nap time. I pray for people throughout the day as I think of them (usually prompted by a picture or blog reading). I try and make sure that my conversations with Jeremiah about the world, discipline etc. include the spiritual side as well (example: when talking about animals I make sure and talk about how God created the world and loves the world).

God has been prompting me lately to spend a few quiet moments each day considering the verses in Proverbs 31. The events of the past year have had me feeling abit out of control. I find myself now desiring a certain measure of discipline, wisdom, and spiritual depth. I want to be a more godly wife and mother.

My journey into Proverbs 31 has already lead to soul searching, prayer, and greater depence on God as I realize (again) that I cannot be the woman described above in my own strength. Stay tuned for more as I share parts of this journey with you.
